Perfect Chaos

I walked past a girl on the street. She was speaking to her friend, but really she was speaking to me:

“He will always be alone.
And he will never be happy.”

I had to laugh. It was like the ultimate dagger thrusted into my heart – she had seemingly picked up on the way I was feeling and her words amplified the pain, apparently intending to cause the greatest possible hurt, or to test my resilience, or something.

Since those words were spoken to me I have done a great deal of reflecting on the character of women. I often think about that famous expression, ‘Men are from Mars and women are from Venus’. In the absence of being able to truly understand women, I resolved to try to be honest about my thoughts and feelings and act with equal kindness to all human beings, but these qualities (which I regard as positive) have led to several years of acute isolation and loneliness.

God often tells me He wants me to Himself and that’s the reason why I am single and lonely. I find that immensely comforting.

I love women, even though they seem to be the reason for so much pain and misery in my life. Sometimes I fear women – I fear that the women working in the health service will treat me cruelly out of anger that I have somehow caused though I don’t understand how.

I don’t like the games. I long for a world where everyone speaks openly and honestly about their feelings and where there is no confusion. Surely, God can provide the perfect partner for every man and woman without the need for fighting, envy, jealously, competition and games.

The interactions between men and women are the beating heart of life on Earth, yet they are plagued with problems, I suppose because we live in a fallen world. In the Qur’an, God says that human beings were created evil, and this is very evident. We all act selfishly and get angry and feel guilty and this is the lot God has given us.

It’s not all bad, of course.

I wonder what Earth would be like if all human beings were centred in their relationship with God and if they prayed that God would enable them to act with unconditional love at all times. Perhaps there would be harmonious relationships, no jealously, no divorce, no fighting.
