Doing Your Best

There’s a lyric from a Radiohead song that’s been in my mind a lot recently:

“You try the best you can,
You try the best you can,
The best you can is good enough.”

And a person I know has often said to me recently:

“God is merciful. You can only do your best.”

God said to me today:

“You have done so much more than enough.”

I suppose this is why I am drinking so heavily these days. It doesn’t matter, because God has accepted me. He also tells me often that I have a long way to go and my best is yet to come, so I maintain optimism about the future.

I can’t see a way forward from my present circumstances, but I know turnarounds are easy for God. So I will try to relax, enjoy myself, and trust.
