When scientists try to make predictions about the future based on past events, they are in grave error.
Scientists often believe in a deterministic universe of causes and effects. They will look, for example, at someone’s medical history and give them a ‘prognosis’ based on records they have kept.
But in reality, God controls the universe. One event will only be followed by another if this is the will of God. In any situation, there are infinite possibilities.
There are certain things that God does with regularity. You expect one heartbeat to be followed by another and night to follow day, for example. But we can never be certain that God will continue to unfold any events with regularity.
Miracles demonstrate that the world should not be viewed merely as a succession of predictable events, but as a manifestation based on the freedom of God to do whatever He wishes.
In the Old Testament, we read about how God used certain individuals – prophets – to accurately predict the future, and prophecy is part of biblical Christian life. These types of prophecy carry weight because they are allied to God, rather than determinism.
You need never let scientists constrain your thinking by making predictions about your future based on philosophy that isn’t grounded in God. Instead, believe in the possibility of miracles, and ask God to do the impossible. He has the power and freedom to help.
God bless
