Waters Above the Heavens?

Do respond if you have any thoughts.

And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

(Genesis 1:6-8)

If the expanse is the sky, this would make sense because there is water above the sky (clouds).  But that would mean heaven is the sky, and there don’t seem to be any angelic beings in the sky.

If the expanse is space, then there are waters above space, which is an interesting concept, seeing as space surrounds the Earth. Unless the Earth is flat and everything to do with space that we see in the media is a colossal Satanic deception.

How do you interpret these verses?
