Dear friends,
There is no doubt that the atoning work of Jesus Christ, who died for the remission of sins of an elect group is a reality. Christians who have been forgiven by God know this in their heart.
But do we have to accept that the vision Jesus had for His return was wrong in certain respects? I’m open to discussing this matter with anyone who wishes to contribute their thoughts.
Please consider the following Scriptures:
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”
“From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
(Matthew 24:29-35)
We learn from the opening of the book of Matthew what a generation is. Generations from Abraham to Jesus Christ are listed chronologically, and we have the following verses:
“So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.”
(Matthew 1:17)
So a new generation begins with the birth of a son, which is logical if we consider the word ‘generate’ and what that means.
Is it possible that when Jesus spoke of “this generation” not passing away until these things take place, He was referring to Himself, and making reference to the fact that He would not die, or have a son, before these things take place? We know from the story of the resurrection that Jesus did not die but is still alive: after His resurrection He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father, praise God!
If this interpretation is correct, then Jesus was not in error. Jesus is coming back.
We cannot be sure when Jesus will return:
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.” (Matthew 24:36)
But we must be ever prepared.
I’m still trying to come to terms with certain experiences I’ve had in recent years, and the things I’ve experienced since my suicide attempt, that made me believe I was Jesus in His second coming. Maybe, because I attempted to take my life, in certain respects I was ‘playing God’ so God gave me the experience of ‘being’ God to mock me. God is good, and once saved, we are always growing and learning. I will have to prayerfully try to understand and learn the lessons of recent years and make sense of everything.
I have spent long periods in isolation and have struggled with my mental health. When I attempted to take my life, the intensity of the Satanic attack I was under was too much and my prayers weren’t working. I have not been grounded in a church community for some years.
On a more positive note, God has been using me, and continues to use me, to impact the lives of others with the Gospel.
Please keep me in your prayers.
God bless.
