Prayer for Good Friday

Oh my Lord, my Saviour, my King, what words can express the tragic glory of your passion, which we remember today?

You came down from heaven, Lord, you lived a blameless and sinless life, and then you died in agony, oh God, in order that I might be forgiven; such a precious gift that I can barely comprehend.

Lord, as I kneel humbly at your feet, please hear my prayer today. Please help me to know that your terrible suffering – the crown of thorns, the lashes, the humiliation, the nails, the agonising pain – served the most important purpose in the history of man.

By your wounds I am healed. I can claim a life of blessing and abundance because of you, Lord Jesus. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your sacrifice.

Amen.
