A selection of classic vinyl album covers

Artwork for my Album

Posted by

I’m in the process of finalising my album and am tentatively working towards a 10th September 2018 release date. I’m planning to produce a limited run of CDs as well as making the album available digitally through Apple Music, Spotify, and a range of other outlets.

At the moment I’m working on artwork for the album and have finished two possible designs. It would be great to get your feedback! Option 1 reflects the electronic element of the songs and is quite minimalistic and abstract, while Option 2 reflects the theme of some of the lyrics on the album and has more of a link to faith and theology.

If you haven’t been following the project so for you can listen to most of the songs that will feature on the album via this YouTube Playlist.

Here are the two options for album artwork!

OPTION 1:

Print

OPTION 2:

Tuned (album art)

You will notice that the album name is different on each image, which is because I haven’t finally decided on the title yet. I’m also aware of copyright law and there’s a chance that I may not be able to use one or both of the main images if I can’t get permission. I’m waiting to hear back about this.

But copyright issues notwithstanding, which cover do you prefer and why? Which one do you feel best suits the songs? Which title do you prefer and why? Which cover would make you intrigued to hear the album?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

  1. Oh boy. Tough decision. But for album cover, #1 because it suits the music ten times better. Title. hhmmm that’s tougher. I like both for different reasons. The first is simpler, rolls off the tongue easier BUT the second encompasses the theme better. I like simple. But this is your project, so….

  2. Personally, looking at those two covers, titles notwithstanding, I would grab the first all day long. It makes me happy when I look at it and I just know it has electronica on it, so yeah, that’s gonna grab my attention for sure.

  3. Hi Steven. I’m finding the comments quite interesting. It looks like No. 1 is the overwhelming victor. In opting for No. 1, quite a few people are noting its simplicity, which I think is a major selling point. My first impression with No. 2 is that though it did reflect the religious tone of your music, it really is big and showy, kinda hits you in the face. Either way, wishing you all the best on the project!

    1. Hi David! It’s been really interesting reading everyone’s comments. I love the image in No. 2, but it almost requires a theological explanation (nothing wrong with that, it just means it’s less ‘instant’ that No. 1). All good food for thought – it’ll be time for me to decide what to do soon! Thanks again! πŸ™‚
