A selection of classic vinyl album covers

Artwork for my Album

Posted by

I’m in the process of finalising my album and am tentatively working towards a 10th September 2018 release date. I’m planning to produce a limited run of CDs as well as making the album available digitally through Apple Music, Spotify, and a range of other outlets.

At the moment I’m working on artwork for the album and have finished two possible designs. It would be great to get your feedback! Option 1 reflects the electronic element of the songs and is quite minimalistic and abstract, while Option 2 reflects the theme of some of the lyrics on the album and has more of a link to faith and theology.

If you haven’t been following the project so for you can listen to most of the songs that will feature on the album via this YouTube Playlist.

Here are the two options for album artwork!

OPTION 1:

Print

OPTION 2:

Tuned (album art)

You will notice that the album name is different on each image, which is because I haven’t finally decided on the title yet. I’m also aware of copyright law and there’s a chance that I may not be able to use one or both of the main images if I can’t get permission. I’m waiting to hear back about this.

But copyright issues notwithstanding, which cover do you prefer and why? Which one do you feel best suits the songs? Which title do you prefer and why? Which cover would make you intrigued to hear the album?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

  1. Hi Steven. Both look good, but I like the top one better (the “minimalistic” one). It has a Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Moon” feel to it. (Yeah, showing my age.) It will be interesting to see what others think and what you finally choose.

  2. I like Option 1. Clean, neat, with a pop of color = very nice. Option 2 isn’t bad, but the picture/title has a far out vibe and I would wonder how far out that is. A.k.a: Is it Christian?

    1. Interesting, thank you! Option 2 is more related to this blog (i.e. being tuned into the nature of God). Some of the lyrics on the album reflect this. I’m not sure whether the image was painted by a Christian, but I’m in the process of researching that!

  3. Depends on the market you’re trying to reach and the message you are conveying with your music…option one strikes me as more contemporary and option two more quirky. I think a more modern look to option two would be distinctive and cool.😊 That’s my 25 cents worth anyway.

    1. Hmmm, you’ve got me pondering. The album is really quite diverse, with everything from ambient to rock to acoustic songs (although there are stylistic threads of continuity that run throughout). The thing about Option 2 is that it almost suggests a concept album, which is somewhat of a wrong impression. The album is experimental πŸ™‚ Thanks for your input! πŸ™‚

      1. Really? I thought it was all kilo-this and meter-that over there in England! 😁

I hope that you’re able to resolve whatever copyright issues you’re presently facing soon – I’m curious to see what the final artwork for your album will look like.

          1. Ah. This is clarifying. But you’re fully metric when you’re cooking (following a recipe), right? I received a British cookbok a couple years ago as a gift, and I’m still trying to decipher the measurements!
